A Letter to Parents

Dear Parents, It is with excitement and pleasure that I welcome you to the Calvert community. We appreciate your support for South Carolina Calvert Academy, and your suggestions on ways to improve our school. Families are an integral part of the Calvert experience, and we look forward to working with you to advance the educational experience of your child. Keep the suggestions and comments coming!

Now that the dust has settled a bit from the school opening, it is time to set in place the framework to oversee the school. One of the core tenants of South Carolina’s charter school movement is to ensure the parents have a strong voice in the way the schools are managed. As such, we must have a Board of Directors elected solely by the employees and parents before the end of the year.

In order to hold an election, we need candidates. Please consider submitting an application for yourself or another candidate for consideration as a potential Board member. There are no requirements other than a passion for high-quality education and a willingness to work as part of a team to advance South Carolina Calvert Academy. Our Founding Board will consider all nominations made by parents, employees and other stakeholders.

• Letter to parents requesting Board candidate submissions: September 25, 2009
• Deadline for receipt of Board candidate submissions: October 26, 2009
• Posting of Board candidates for review by parents: November 6, 2009
• Voting deadline for receipt of email or written proxy: November 25, 2009
• Election results and Board election at Annual meeting: December 1, 2009
• First Board meeting of the newly elected Board: December 17, 2009
