Second Grade Course Materials

Our Second Grade curriculum fully immerses your child in the world of independent reading. Using phonics storybooks and reading anthologies, you can help your child reinforce word analysis techniques and develop comprehension skills. Simultaneously, your child begins writing dictated words and sentences and learning the rules of punctuation, and starts to express his or her own ideas in
original compositions.

Our math course develops skills from the earlier grades by helping your child use numbers in real-world situations such as money, time, and temperature. Complex addition and subtraction also are introduced this year. Students learn to explain their mathematical thinking.

Your child’s integrated curriculum includes technology lessons in typing, spreadsheets, and internet skills such as e-mail. In science, there are units on heat, light, forces, properties of rocks, and the heart and lungs. In social studies, students learn about how communities form and work together.
