South Carolina Calvert Academy—Newest, Statewide Public Virtual Charter School Opens in Columbia

South Carolina Calvert Academy, a Kindergarten through Eighth Grade statewide, public virtual charter school, will open its headquarters in Columbia today. South Carolina Calvert Academy offers the best of tradition and innovation in education. Built on the foundation of the world-renowned Calvert curriculum, the school will offer academic oversight by highly qualified, state-certified teachers and cutting edge instructional technology.

Authorized by the South Carolina Charter Public School District, South Carolina Calvert Academy will welcome 276 students on the first day of school August 25th. The Dr. Secaida Howell, Principal has held orientation sessions throughout the state to acclimate families to the new school.

Additionally, the school has hired a team of highly qualified, state-certified teachers to lead the academic experience of its students. They are: John Allen, Haley Mabry, Angelique Norris, Alexandria Gillcrese Tammy Wyatt and Terri Hooker. Cheryl Prince will serve as Administrative Assistant.

"There is a lot of excitement among the faculty. We have great things planned for our students and look forward to a school year filled with promise," said Dr. Howell.
